What is it with the string of beautiful eyes? I'm loving it!
I have to admit, I'm not as comfortable with older kids. I love shooting them because they are quick and usually easy, but I just feel awkward not doing all my little jokes and playing around. These boys were perfect at just getting it done and doing it well! They obviously love their momma very much!

A few weekends ago I got to get down to Austin for a change and had the opportunity to photograph an old, very dear friend. Well, she's not "old", we're just old friends! Actually she was the very first friend I had when my family moved to TX when I was 8 years old. That makes us friends from just about the same age as her oldest...wow, that's crazy! It is SO strange to me to see your friends kids look more like your memory of them than the present! I see so much of her as a kid in her kids it's just wild. What's also wild is how crazy beautiful their eyes are--JEALOUS! You kids are going to break some hearts one day with those!!!

This sweet family is, make that "was" about to welcome their newest little one to the bunch right after our session. I thought I would have these done before he made his debut, but that's the busy season for you! Well, Momma can reminisce just a few short weeks ago when she had just 2 boys to chase after and was still wearing non-maternity jeans...buttoned. Why can't I button my regular jeans at 38 weeks preggo? Not fair, not fair at all.

New "again" mommies get so much attention with the birth of a new baby that I thought I would put the spotlight on an amazing daddy this time. He chased these boys around for a loooong time while I just sat back and watched, and the best part was--it was all natural. Nothing forced, posed, or acted out. Just a daddy who loves these two, now three, little boys so very much! Congratulations guys! Can't wait to meet baby w!

I am more than more behind with editing since I had to unexpectedly leave town for a week for a family emergency, and I apologize profusely, but I have had nothing but sincere support from all my clients and it has been so gracious. I am going to try to catch up as quickly as I can! To start things off, here is a little one that I haven't seen since her newborn pictures 1 year ago! I love, love, love to be able to photograph families and kids as they grow up! I have a special little place in my heart for the ones that I held and snuggled on when they were just days old, and it's so nice to see them grow into little...or BIG personalities! Sweet Hannly...you are a doll! I love that you brought your grandmother's pearls to play with. Such great memories made through these images!

With the busy season in full effect, I find myself already thinking..."if I have to sit down at this computer one more hour, I'm going to go crazy.." so today I had to get out and shoot for ME. It's really important for me to do this every now and then to not only actually get some images of my own kids done every couple of months, but also to practice, learn new technique and to just enjoy photography. Not that I don't enjoy it every session, but I mean enjoy it without the pressure of shooting for someone else. Just to get out and "play"! Plus, I had to location scout! I'm running out of ideas for new, unique places so today we just drove. Addyson is usually more than willing to go out with me, and I can typically get a few that I love of her...she's just not quite hit "muse" status...yet. She's still in training. :) lol

Today she was all for the session, and even styled herself--and I do mean every piece of what she's wearing is all her (I was impressed), but then we got there and she informed me--no props. I will not smile or have fun if you get one chair, box, or blanket out of the car. Hahaha! She's too much sometimes. And I had a vision for this little "shoot" too! Oh well. Maybe I'll get to bring a client here and bring out the big guns.

Amazing...{Dallas Family Photographer}

Weekend before last I got the most amazing opportunity...to go do a destination shoot for some of my dear clients up in Colorado where they live part of the year...the part you don't want to be in Texas for! lol :) We had been tossing this idea around for about a year, but it all began when I was too far along in my pregnancy with Nash so this Fall seemed pretty perfect. And it was. It was just beautiful. They welcomed us (Trent and I) into their beautiful home on top of a mountain with gorgeous views (which I'll be posting separately). They were wonderful hosts to us and we certainly were very pampered to say the least. We went up there already feeling pretty comfortable as friends with them, but left feeling like we'd known them forever. It really was a perfect long weekend. Since we didn't bring the kids, Trent and I both had to get our kid time in with Laird and we had a ball. He is seriously one of the happiest kids I have ever met, and we were really kind of sad to leave him. I really hope he had as much fun playing with us and hanging out, but don't you get the feeling that he's played with quite a bit??? Good thing that kid's not loved or anything, huh?! :)

Here's what seems like it should be our whole session, but we did several little "mini" sessions throughout the weekend, so this really is just a small part of the final images!

Fall Mini Sessions-McKinney, TX {Dallas Family Photographer}

For all my McKinney/Allen/Frisco/North Dallas friends, or anyone who wants to drive just a little bit...I will be doing 1 weekend of mini-sessions this Fall and it's coming up soon! I just posted this yesterday on Facebook and I only have 1 slot left for Sunday, but several for Saturday. We will have tons of different set-ups out here including the vintage red truck, a red couch, an antique bed (for all you shabby chic lovers), and plenty of grassy area to run and play in...let's just pray some of it's green! lol

Reese {4}--Southlake Children's Photographer

I always love photographing Reese. I look forward to it Spring for his birthday and Fall for the family...he never lets me down! a gift {McKinney Family Photographer}

Recently, well actually, late this Spring, I was asked to do a special session as a Mother's day gift to one very loved Momma! Even though the pictures were maybe the last thing they wanted to be doing on this evening, everyone did agree that they wanted their mom to have something really great for her Mother's day gift. Dad arranged the whole thing, styled everyone, and even pulled off a tiny white lie to get them all here...can we all say "Awwwww..." It really was touching. I'm not even sure what I would do if I got a gift so thought out as this, but I'm sure this mom had one huge smile on her face and a lot of love in her heart when she finally was let in on the secret!

This dad is also THE Dr. Burton of All About Children Pediatrics in McKinney and so if you are looking for the most wonderful Pediatrician in that area, go check out the office! You'll find him lovin' on all the kids there, and you'll also find one incredible nurse too (shameless plug for my own Mom who also works there!) and also some pretty incredible portraits on all the walls (shameless plug for a certain photographer).

New location!

I've known about this location for a while now, but finally last night made the trek out there. Kind of a drive, but so worth it! My kids slightly cooperated and we got a good evening for shooting. It wasn't too, too hot and there was the most gorgeous sunset last night that we actually got to be outside and watch. Love witnessing God's gifts with my family in such a serene setting. Of course, by that time, the kids were DONE with pictures so no documentation of that wonderful gift, but oh well. So, if you already booked for a fall session and would like to venture out here with me, I'm all for it and the ride may be just the right amount of time for a quick cat-nap for the kids before they are "on"! There are also lots of cool spots other than the truck, but Addyson was having too much fun on the truck to leave it. And Nash, well, I didn't come prepared with the right clothes for him so the only place he was sitting bare-bummed was on that truck. Even standing in a little dirt made him very uneasy so there was no "exploring" for him.

This summer has been one of the best summer's ever. We've done so much as a family this summer, and now that our family is a little more complete--it has been just awesome. Even though I'm sad to see it come to an end, I'm glad we have so many pictures from it. When Addyson turned 4, I was in newborn *you know what* with a colicky, fussy, non-sleeping baby and so we really didn't do her formal "4 year" pictures. So, when we were on our last leg of vacation this summer visiting my grandparents, I decided to take her out to some really cool urban spots around town. I love that she appeases my need for pictures pretty much whenever I want...or at least if the reward is worth it! This time it was homemade ice cream and she totally deserved it + it was a really cool and much needed "date" with my baby! More to come, but here's a couple...

But, having the ice cream place right across the street coaxed her into a couple more!

Another bittersweet day...another babyplanner turns one. It's always so much fun to see the little newborns grow up their first year, but always a reminder of how fast our sweet little ones grow. Baby Allie already has her own agenda and is clearly trying to show that "she" is making the rules around here. We begged and pleaded for her to come a little early so we could do her session before my vacation and even gave her the option of coming a little later, but what did she do...arrive exactly the day I leave for vacation, an hour before we hop in the car for Florida! At least she gave me something to be excited about with coming home! Thanks to her mom and dad for waiting for me and allowing me to take this little beauty's first pictures! She's such a doll!

I had such a fun little session with this little guy last week. He apparently enjoyed it too because he barely made a peep the whole time and was a great sleeper until we got done with the very last shot and then he let it all out. I guess he was sad to leave me! :) Oh yeah, except for the part where he tee-teed in my face...that wasn't showing the love so much. Yes, I get peed on all the time, but never in my face. I guess it was bound to happen sometime!

I love meeting new families, and especially new parents! The first few weeks are exhausting, but blissful. I can't believe how stunning mom looks at almost 3 weeks out! Doesn't even look like she's skipped a beat or missed a wink of sleep. And Dad was super loving on his "mini me"!

Loved meeting you all! Thank you for bringing that little sweetie to me. You have a beautiful new family!

This blog post is going to be in 2 parts because I am on the way out to celebrate my fabulous husband's birthday sans kids...woo hoo! but I wanted to do a quick post for this soon to be momma.

I have had an abundance of momma's to be, and 3 out of 4 have been expecting their 3rd kiddo! How fun! All this "third baby" talk has got my mind racing with baby fever again! Ha! Maybe someday....

I love this family. I do. They are some of my best clients turned friends. Most of my clients turn into people I can call friends, and I just love this about my job. Meeting so many new families that are so great that I immediately connect with them and could see us sipping coffee after the session or making a playdate for our kids. That's actually just what has happened with this family and I really value the friendship that has become of that first session a full 2 years ago.

We always do pictures every Spring to document the girls birthdays, but this year I get to do a different kind of session come July...yep, they are soon to be a party of 5! I can't wait for such a special newborn session this summer! These 2 are going to make amazing big sisters!

And sweet M is developing such grace as she finishes out her Kindergarten year. Goodness, they grow up way to fast....

Catching up from Fall...{McKinney Child Photographer}

This was hands down, one of my most favorite sessions! In a way, I think every session that I just finish is my favorite at the time, but I have loved everything about this session since even planning it out with my friend, Jen, aka "mom". Ever since I started IBY, I have been trying to get these kids in front of my camera and Jen was just waiting for the right timing. Well, all of sudden one day she had that "moment" where she said, I don't even need these right now, and in fact don't want to order them right now (they are building a new house and wanted to order for the new walls in the Spring), but we NEED to shoot them right now! Something about the boys relationship with each other was so special right then, their ages/stage each was at, Brooks sweet, sweet, SWEET curls in his hair, the fall weather, the leaves on the ground...need I say more? I immediately jumped on the chance to photograph the boys and am SO glad we did this. The boys were so much fun to hang out with--truly, FUN! I used to babysit Connor when he was around 3 and he is just growing into of the most handsome, intelligent, and just the best "big kid" I have ever met. Grayson is super spunky, all boy, and has the most to-die-for eyes, and Brooks....well, there are not words to describe his cuteness! Jen's been waiting a long time even to see just one of these, so you get a lot!

I've been published?!!! (DFW Newborn Photographer)

So, I'm really not sure if this classifies me as truly "published", but in my eyes it certainly does; or at least it just makes me just overflowing with happiness at this very moment!

So, Design Aglow is a marketing shop for photographers, a high end one at that. They sell templates and such to photographers, as well as put out magazines for photographers that are packed with inspiration, technique, and tips from the best of the best photographers.

A few months ago they put on their blog that they wanted photographers to send in up to 5 images of newborns for a posing guide they were putting out and your images may be used. I thought, well, I'll give it a shot...a long shot, but nonetheless, a shot. This guide will be purchased by other photographers and contains 50 images and descriptions for "getting the shot" that they can reference during their own sessions.

Fast forward to today and this morning I got 2 emails from Design Aglow saying 2 out of my 5 images are being used in the guide!!! Really??? How exciting is this?! I had no idea which 2 until I opened up their blog this morning and saw 1 of my images was even used to market the newborn posing cards! I'm still not sure which other one is being used and I'm dying to know! I mean, I thought they were all so great, but to be recognized by a national photography website is just overwhelming to me. And out of 50 images used, I got 2!!!
I know it's not an acknowledgement that's contributing to anything significant, but to me it's a huge honor to be recognized, and have my photography speak for itself. Wow, I am on cloud 9 today...can ya tell? So there's my 15 minutes--I'm one happy photographer!

Brynley {Austin Newborn Photographer}

Here she is! The only girl that was born out of all my 3 closest friends and I, all due within 7 weeks of each other. It's been so fun for me to meet and really get to spend a little time with each of them before my own is born soon and now I just can't wait for my son to meet all his new best friends! Brynley came to meet me up here from Austin since I can't travel anymore and I can not thank her mommy and daddy enough for trusting me so much with these precious photos that they would travel with her right after delivery! Brynley is so sweet and dainty, it was really nice for me to get to hold a baby girl again after the surge of boys that have been born recently! Debbie, her mom, kept telling me how little she was and she was right! I'm not sure it really shows in the photographs, but "dainty" is the perfect word to describe her sweet self. There's just something so sweet about girls and the color pink and I am in love with these first pictures of her! So nice to meet you sweet Brynley...love your Aunt Kelly!

I know, I know...as I start this post I am a little concerned that I won't remember how to even upload my images. It's been forever. Is there anyone still following the blog even? I sure do hope so, or maybe this sweet little one will draw you back in! Meet Dax. He's one super special little boy because not only because his Momma and I are super duper close, but I also got to be there to witness and photograph his birth! Wow, what an experience that I will never forget. Hopefully I will be able to show the video soon with permission from his parents, but even then that won't begin to explain how amazing that was for me. To see this little boy come into the world just left me literally speechless and feeling so very, very small in this amazing world that the Lord has made. As we now start this month where we think about all the things we are so thankful for, new life is on the top of my list. Not only Dax or my own baby boy that's coming soon, but there are several more reminders of this beautiful gift coming--very soon. Stay tuned!

Sweet baby girl- Hannly 10 days {Keller Newborn Photographer}

Sweet Hannly came to be my first visitor to the new studio and I couldn't have had a better model! At first she wanted to look all around and play awhile, but after an hour of my sleepy tricks, she got some much needed rest after keeping her Mommy and Daddy up all night the night before.

Mommy and I met about a year ago and have been planning this session pretty much since the beginning of her pregnancy so it was so good to finally meet Hannly! We got a lot of fun shots during her session and I love how sweet and peaceful she looks in all of them! Congratulations Mom and Dad! You guys are going to make awesome parents!!!

My cousins are in town, which means photo shoot for us! This literally almost didn't happen though due to the torrential downpour that occurred on our way there and which we had to sit in the car and just wait out to get started! Oh my goodness it was scary! It wouldn't have been so bad to reschedule, but that's pretty impossible with family in town from New York and available for these pictures 1 day!!!

I love getting to really spend some one-on-one time with them when they are here because I get to know them a little more each time and see how much they've grown since the last year! Dylan is a sweetheart to my little Addyson and was so "big brother-like" to her and Elysa is 4 is gives me a glimpse into the future by a year, which is so exciting and fun to see. Addyson has loved spending what few days she can with her cousins so it has been a great time for all of us!

Dylan recently celebrated his first communion and so Mom wanted a few pictures in his suit. He looks so grown up here to me and he was SO PROUD telling me all about his big day. Such a great moment I'm sure!

Fall Mini Sessions and BIG NEWS!!!

To anyone who hasn't see the memo on my facebook page, I am so thrilled to announce that I have a new STUDIO!!! I am beyond excited and can't wait to start my sessions there this next week. I will mostly be doing newborn sessions there since family sessions are typically done on location, but in order to provide better customer service from the initial consultation to the day you pick up your prints, I will be doing all in-person ordering at the studio. This way, I will be there to assist you with ordering images that fits your true needs and will hopefully take a lot of confusion out of the online ordering experience. Plus, you will actually get to see a lot options and products available instead of blindly ordering something that you "think" might work. Together, we will create a truly custom photography experience!

The studio is also great for natural light portraits and is a really fun atmosphere so to kick off kind of a "grand opening" of the studio and since I will not be able to provide all the sessions I would like to this year for holiday cards and fall portraits, I will be doing 2 days of mini-sessions. The first is a "kids only" morning at the downtown Roanoke studio that is sure to be bright, fun and colorful, and the second day we will be utilizing the fabulous downtown Roanoke. The 2nd day families are welcome or it can be kids only as well. I will be doing custom Holiday cards for anyone who wants them from these sessions or you can purchase individual digital images if you would like to do your own.

Lacy-3 months {Southlake Child Photographer}

Lacy and big brother Grant finally came to see me! Their parents and I all went to high school together and ever since they moved to Southlake about a year and a half ago, I have been waiting patiently for them to stop in! This session was all about Miss Lacy, but we talked big brother into just 1. Now when I look at that sweet smile, I can't believe we didn't break out the big guns...and I do mean candy, to convince him to stay for a few more. Oh well. Now that I have the studio, he will have to be one of my "helpers" in figuring out the light so I can snap a few more gorgeous smiles!

For a typically hard stage to capture, Lacy was an angel. She is already great with tummy time and holding her head up so we got some different poses and lots of cute expressions. And her outfits...oh my goodness. Tutu cute!!! :) I have always thought of Ashley as the perfect "boy" mom because Grant is absolutely the sweetest mix between crazy, fun boy and polite, well-mannered kid, but this Momma needed her girl to shop for! I know you two are going to be the best of friends Ash!

Knox-7 day sweetheart {Keller Newborn Photographer}

This little guy was so easy that we could have worked with him all day! I really don't think he made a peep the whole session and was the sweetest little guy. I love, love, love how he blends with the tan so well and how his little reddish brown hair creates the perfect contrast on the blanket. I am saving some for just Mom and Dad, and I put some on my facebook page, but him on the tan blanket just became my new favorite tonight! I am thinking I need some new studio samples!!! Awww...and now that I really DO have a studio, this little man is for sure going up in it! Yay for me and Knox! :)

Allie-2 1/2 yrs., Berkley-1 1/2 {McKinney Child Photographer}

To say this session has been a long time coming would be a complete understatement! Mom called me about photographing her 2 girls in August of 2009. We just completed the session in July 2010! Ha! That sounds so funny to me now, but it was just a combination of 2 moms planning to get together around our crazy schedules! You other mom's know how it is!!!

So we finally met up for a "family" session and within the first 10 minutes that plan was nixed. We must have chosen the most unbelievably hottest day of summer in the hottest location possible and everyone was sopping wet within minutes. I wish you even could have seen how cute their Momma looked when she got there too...but you will, just in a couple of months when we re-do the family portion of the session!

The girls braved the heat in unbelievable style so we just turned our shoot into documenting their milestones.

First up--Allie 2 1/2

Cutest little thing and LOVES to talk! She talked to me the whole entire time and is super outgoing. Loves Toy Story 3, yogurt covered raisins, playing with her daddy, and her sister--except the whole sharing part of having a sister that's close in age to you! lol

And Berkley-1 1/2

Loves playing peek a boo, yogurt covered raisins, riding in her baby stroller (for dolls :), pushing her stroller, her mommy, and Ring Around the Rosie.

I'm still not sure how they both fit in here, but it sure was cute!

Smith Family {Keller Family Photographer}

I recently got to meet this sweet family and I am so blessed that I did. When Holly called me, we instantly connected. I don't know how or why, but we did. At least to me we did, anyway. They have been through such a tragic summer and by the end of our phone conversation, I was left speechless. I was so sad and yet she was so positive and full of hope on the phone. People like this amaze me and it often makes me wonder what I will be like if and when I go through my own tragedies in the future. I only can hope that I am as strong as Holly. It's people like this that you will never forget!

Once we finally met, I felt like we had known each other forever and it was so fun to get to hang out with them and Hudson. Hudson is one of the coolest little boys I have met and he was a joy to photograph. I quickly realized though that my plans for the session and Hudson's plans were completely different. This was one of those sessions that you have to completely let go of any preconceived ideas and just play...so we did! :) After all, this sessions focus was completely on capturing the 18 mo old preciousness of Hudson and the awesomeness that surrounds us when even in the midst of pain, if there is a child around, somehow it all disappears for a bit.

The Schafer's {Southlake Family Photographer}

Whew...is it fall yet?? And this was a "cool" day in July! :) It's never, shall we say "easy", to get a family of 5 all in a good family picture, especially in the middle of summer, but somehow we managed to get it done...in fact, several times throughout this session, but the rest are all for Mom and Dad! Here's a quick peek at this beautiful bunch...

Emma's 10 months! {Dallas Child Photographer}

This is probably the cutest age to photograph! Babies at 9-10 months are so giggly and smiley, not so mobile that are all over the place, and there isn't too much that they don't love at this stage! This session has been a long time coming so we were all pretty excited to get Emma out on the golf course, better known as Daddy's 2nd home. :) I hear Daddy is a pretty fantastic golfer so we had considered doing her newborn session out here and it was raining that day, and then figured we would just wait until she was sitting up and could play a little bit on the course. I'm so glad we did because looks like someone has been shopping at the pro shop for her over the past few months! (Check out her golf shoes towards the end...too sweet!)

She had so much fun and was the perfect little baby during our time together. Emma is a babyplanner and I can't believe that she is already 10 months. It is truly amazing how fast the first couple years of a child's life goes by. You blink and you might miss something!

Hidell Family {Dallas Family Photographer}

It's tricky scheduling around so many vacations this June, but thankfully we (me and this family) were both going on vacation at the same time right after our session so they haven't been waiting TOO long for what I know will be BIG surprise shots! See, they left just the way basically every couple of a 2 year old leaves...feeling like "did you get just one???" Me and my husband went through the same thing when ours was just a little younger than this sweet girl so I get it. I totally get it. Are 2 year olds hard to photograph? No. I'm being serious...no. Should your expectations be different with a 1-3 year old vs a 5+ year old? Yes, without a doubt. Now, I don't mean lower your expectations in any way, I simply mean to change them. With a 2 year old, you should expect to see them for exactly who they are: playful, energetic, fun, and loving. Their personality really shines during this age and it's a wonderful thing to capture. Mom and Dad were telling me how they haven't had family pictures done yet after one failed attempt, but I am so glad they tried again while Miss Berlin is still the star of the show. She's going to be a big sis pretty soon and I know that they will look back at these with great memories of this stage and maybe even this day! So hold out on those "perfect smiles and poses" for a few more years and embrace the joy that is 2! Isn't it beautiful?

I couldn't even choose out of all my favorites, so I thought why not just put em all up?!

Okay, every toddler has one...a Baby Kate, Sarah, Jack, Teddy, etc. But really....A KELLY!!?? I love it! I promised Mom and Dad they would look back on a picture with "the baby" and smile and what do you know--it turned out to be probably my favorite one of the day!

And I love, love, LOVE these as well. Awwww...just PRECIOUS!

Are Digital Files Included With My Baby Photography Session?

This article was shared with me and I just had to post it. I have really been thinking, praying, and honestly stressing a lot this year about this issue and was looking for a way to explain myself in the best way about this. I think this pretty much sums it up. I can't tell you how many times I have been approached about digital files and actually gotten mad at because of my philosophy on them, so I hope this will clear up some answers. I want to stress that the last paragraph talks about "cheap photography". While I know that I am certainly not the cheapest (nor the most expensive) photographer in this area, I am not saying that all photographers that are "cheap" are bad. I was one of those photographers when I was first starting. I wished I couldn't say that now. It was not a good decision for me business-wise. We live and learn through our mistakes though and I now know that I was just diminishing the quality of my own work, the work of other photographers, and the definition of custom photography. I have another article link on my blog titled "What is Custom Photography" and while custom photography is growing to seem like it's offered by every "photographer" who conducts their sessions on-location, it is so much more than that. My name is on everything I sell. From the location you choose, the style of clothes you wear, the images-obviously, and the art that is purchased that is sitting in your home...detailing YOUR memories. I stand behind every part of what I do and charging the same as the chain, mall studios that offer you 1 pose on 500 different sheets is not even rational or reasonable. Like I said, I NOW know this. Have I lost clients over it, yes. But the alternative was to continue to produce the very, very best I could (which the perfectionist in me would only allow me to do) as I basically paid my clients to take their pictures, while I lost sleep, family time, my relationships, and my passion for doing what I love.

I truly love what I do. I love that I am so passionate about it. I love that it consumes me. I love that I go to sleep planning for the next session. I do. I love that I get to walk in someones home and see the art that I produced for them hanging on a wall in a frame or canvas, or on their coffee table as an album. I love that my birth announcements get sent all over displaying a family's newest joy. I want that for you. Will I sell the digitals, yes--for what they are worth. I do understand that you want images for facebook, blogs, and just to email, and I am very willing to work with you on what you need--after all, I do custom photography. I just hope that this helps answer some of the questions I get about digitals and a little behind my philosophy on them.

I do love a good chase with the younger ones, but sometimes it's just so nice to just hang out and be more relaxed. Get in, do your thing, and voila!...beautiful! This is one of my favorite spots to shoot--We have even had our family pictures taken here before and I loved everything about this session. The family, the lighting, the location, the clothes, the colors...everything right down to Mom's rockin' shoes. Loved them especially! :)

Drese sisters {Euless Child Photographer}

First of all, I love these girls and they are super close friends of ours, but that's about all I'm "allowed" to say on the blog. My friend, Roxanne (mom), told me I had to skip the cheesy write-up for her girls so I will. Am I really cheesy?? I don't think so, but I'll give her what she wants...with one last thing...Aren't they the most precious, beautiful, stylish, fun, sweet girls with the Hottest Momma ever??? Okay, done.

Oh, and the first one is so different because we just went driving for these until we came to a spot we liked, or should I say "I liked" and hopped out on the side of the road. Rox was all sweet and went and asked this nice older man in a bath robe if we could use their lot for pictures so I was thinking she was really into the field thing. I now know different. :) Kaia and Roxanne are definitely not the "outdoorsy" type, while all along Miss Alyssa just sat back and ate the flowers. lol. My kind of girl!

Yes, you read that right...I said "6 WEEKS"! Is it cheating when you have a preemie come in at 6 weeks and sleeps like he was a day old? Well, technically it wasn't even his due date yet at this point, so I guess that still qualifies him as a newborn: a very sleepy, cooperative, moldable, squishy newborn. Don't ya just love his chub?? He was seriously the sweetest and so was his fun mama! We had a great time with this one and could have kept going all day long...oh wait, we did! Laird was the baby that kept giving and giving, and then still giving, so we just kept going...pose after pose after pose! Such a great little model! :) His daddy has yet to see any of these, so thank you for waiting so patiently. I hope these were worth the wait!

The Capelo Family of 4

So I met up with Renee, Rod, and the "kids" to do some family pictures a couple of weeks ago. This was such a fun session because Renee and Rod actually booked the session to document their family one last time as a "little family of 4", because in October, they will become a family of 5...and they aren't adding another dog! I keep thinking about how I really don't remember my life, even with my husband, before we had our daughter, and I hear that from so many people! It's so amazing how much a child changes our lives, but it's so important to not forget your life before them and what a great idea they had to document this time together these last few months. For the past few years, their "babies" have been Dodger and Jada, and as much as these two are loved...I don't see that changing with their new addition. I know they are so excited to meet their new sibling in a few months and to share the love with Mom and Dad!

This week I got to do something I have been looking forward to for a little over a year now...I finally got to take Caitlin's real Senior pictures! See last year when I was just starting out, I asked my best friend's sister if I could "borrow" her daughter, who was a Junior at the time so that I could practice with a more "adult" model. We had a great time and the pictures came out pretty decent, but this year it was time for the real thing! Oh Miss Kayla, what am I going to do with you?! Seriously dear, could you get any cuter? I am bursting with excitement over how cute I think these pictures are!

Another one year birthday has come and gone for another one of my favorite repeat clients, but I am loving watching her grow cuter and sweeter each time we get together. We started off doing my typical on-location session, but even though Kayla was a trooper and smiled, danced, and clapped right on through the chilly wind, we decided it was best NOT to make her sick so we took it back to the studio. I have to admit, I was a little nervous about getting the same quality of fun with the studio pics as I know we could get on-location, but all I can say is "WOW"! I am SO glad we came back here and did these. I had a vision and Kayla far surpassed it. Thanks mom and dad for trusting my wacky ideas for the studio shots. I hope you love them. Happy 1st Birthday sweet girl!

Fiorella 1 year {Southlake Child Photographer}

Fiorella and I are quickly becoming great friends and I am loving watching this little sweetheart grow up. We met a few months ago at 7 months, and now I got to see her walking, talking some, singing and dancing. She LOVES her some "Baa-Baa Black Sheep"! We must have looked ridiculous to the other people in the park continuously singing that song with her, but that's okay...anything goes during a photo shoot! I love how creative her mom is too--she always makes my job so much easier with bringing her own props and ideas, like the vintage chair from the last session, and the fabulous gold slippers and outfit for this one!

Madilyn-5, Emily Kate-2 {McKinney Child Photographer}

I have to admit, this session gave me a little twinge of jealousy. Seeing these sisters play together, love on each other, and just "be" together was such a sweet experience. But, when I started looking through these and really catching all the glances, expressions, and smiles of love they gave to each other-that's when I had a moment of "I wonder what it would have been like for me to have a sister?". Don't get me wrong...I would have felt the same way about having a brother if I didn't have one, and I wouldn't give my brother up for anything--I love that guy to pieces, but it's just the "want what you don't have" syndrome, I guess.

This was my third time to photograph these girls and it just keeps getting better and better each time. I can't say enough how much I love this session and the images that we got. These girls have such personality and I think these images show them off--or at least I hope they do! And Megan (mom) knows that I put up the best of the best on my sneak peeks, but this time Megan--don't think for a second these are just the best! There are so many more that I can't wait for you to see...if only I could put them all up. Oh yeah, and these are my "March birthday girls" so again, Happy Birthday sweet girls!

Cole-15 days {Southlake Newborn Photographer}

I had been waiting to meet little Cole for a little while since our session was rescheduled due to the scare he gave his parents by staying a few extra days in the NICU. Thankfully, he is doing great now and is a perfectly healthy boy! He is the new baby of a good friend of mine, and what a ball of sweetness he was. At 15 days, he was still weighing in at just 6 lbs something and was so tiny, but don't let his size fool you...this little one was a spitfire! He seriously wanted some control over this session, but after he saw how "un-phased" I was by all the poo, poo, and more poo that he thought would deter me from taking his first photos, he decided he had enough! And I thought the girls were supposed to be feisty! He was seriously so cute and oh my goodness, so incredibly sweet during our break to eat. I could have held him all day! And it's always a joy to get to hang out with big sis as well!

Samantha-9 days {Irving Newborn Photographer}

Oh Samantha my love...what an easy newborn you were. :) Samantha was the newborn that kept on giving, and giving, and still giving. I was looking back through these images and I'd get to a series and think, "oh yeah, this was towards the end"...but no, there was more, and more, and then even some more!

After we got all finished up with her, I was telling her mom what a GREAT job she did for us. She was so sleepy, only needed one break to eat, and never put up a fuss, so she spilled her secret to us. Okay, so I need to start adding this to my "how to prep for a newborn session"--Her session was at 9, so she got her up and fed her at 6ish, then gave her a bath which kept her awake for a long while, then got her in the car and drove here, feeding her immediately before the shoot. So, she only slept just in the car on the way over here. Great job Mom! If you are scheduled for a session with me for your little one, it really helps get better sleepy shots if you try your hardest to keep baby up for as long as you can right beforehand. Trust me, I know how hard that is, especially since most newborns love to sleep in the morning, but it not only makes my job easier, but deep sleepers will typically get more shots since we can transition into lots of poses. :)

So back to it! Awww... ::sigh::

That's what I think of when I look at this sweet little girl. I love all her squishiness and her beautiful face, and that HAIR, oh my goodness, that hair. I think she only saw one hat the whole time she was here, and it was hard to even put it on her and cover up that beautiful hair!

Her mommy brought her and I am SO excited to even get this post done somewhat early for them because her daddy pretty much has no idea what to expect. I hope he is thrilled with how these turned out! Dad is a pilot and had to leave for work the day that Samantha came home from the hospital. :( I can't even imagine! And people, when I say work, you have no idea...I think he was in Ethiopia during this shoot! So, I think that daddy may be home now and so without further due...meet Samantha

Lily-10 days {Rowlett Newborn Photographer}

This little one was so petite and dainty, and SO incredibly sweet! I don't think we heard a peep out of her for the longest time. She was also a great sleeper...for the first 2 hours--then it was wide awake for Lily! She didn't want to miss a thing once she woke up and saw all the fun we were having. We finally got her back to sleep as she was getting ready to go (she must have heard her Momma packing things up), but we tricked her...just as she fell back asleep we snagged a couple more! I am so thankful this awesome mom drove all the way from Rowlett! Whoa! And I want to give a very special "assistant" many thanks...you rock Amy! Muahhhh! :)

My Valentine

Lately I have been so busy with everything else that I haven't really gotten a chance to take some pictures of my sweet girl, who is growing up WAY too fast and needs to just stop it right this instant! She would say right now if she heard this (true story) "But Mommy, God wants me to grow up and be like you!" And I say, "well...I did want you to stay little, but when you put it like that, I guess I can't argue with you!" And she is soooo right. I want more than anything for her to grow up healthy and happy, and to go out into this big world and show it what she's made of...but, for now I am in love with who she is today--my valentine! I love you my sweet angel.

Anyone who knows Addyson is probably laughing at this middle one because that is SO her! She's always gotta give me that tongue out picture! :) Love her!

And on a photography note, I'm not a really "white background" kind of girl, but we're trying out new things around here I think for the first time, it didn't turn out half bad!

Newborns {DFW Newborn Photographer}

So I just got back from the most AMAZING class--a newborn photography class by the ridiculously talented Kelley Ryden and Tracy Raver. I can't even tell you how much fun I had...I made new friends, spent 3 glorious days in a foot of snow (this was much cooler before it snowed a foot here) :) and got to do 4 newborn sessions in 2 days! I'm not saying it wasn't work, it totally was, but work truly is fun when you love your job and are passionate about what you do. Who wouldn't love to do this all the time? I am so blessed. Newborns bring such a calmness to this busy, chaotic world for me and these images make me at peace. Here are a few images from our sweet models...they were all such great babies!

This time next week I will have learned a lot more about newborn photography after I attend a newborn photography class by 2 of the leading newborn photographers in the US. They are experts at newborn art and with these new skills, my new home studio dedicated exclusively to newborns, and my new favorite prop you may have seen in one of my recent posts (my awesome red vintage couch), I am calling all newborns!!! Emma-4 months {Frisco Child Photographer}

One of my babyplanners, Emma, just turned 4 months so I headed out to their home to see her. This little girl seriously has one of the sweetest faces ever! Warning: her little dimples will make your heart melt! I feel like I always say "wow, they've gotten SO big" about every baby when I haven't seen them in awhile, but Emma is such a little petite thing that she still looks so tiny! Well..tiny little legs, tiny little feet, tiny little hands, but one gigantic smile! You guys are so lucky--hold on to that little baby as long as you can! We played so much during her shots of just her, that as soon as her daddy got a hold of her for family pictures, she just crashed! Next time, she'll be so alert that I am sure we wouldn't be able to get her to sleep if we tried, so we'll take those sleepy shots this time. :) Can't wait until I see you again sweet Emma!

18 and counting...{Southlake Family Photographer}

I recently got the pleasure of meeting an amazing family of 18...an extended family, that is. :)
As I sat here tonight looking at so many of their pictures, I realized what awesome memories were created that night by this family. Everyone came together from different areas to celebrate the 80th birthdays of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wentling, or "grandma and grandpa" to the bunch. So they were having a huge celebration for them and called me to take some family portraits before the big event. Everyone looked wonderful, was in great spirits (as they should be), welcomed me and my gang with open arms and then went off to celebrate 2 the guests of honor. It really hit me tonight though what an event this was and how proud Grandma and Grandpa must be of their children and grandchildren, AND how much of a blessing this day was for everyone. The evening was centered around Mr. and Mrs. Wentling, but more than that it was centered around four generations of love that came together--what an amazing thing to celebrate! Thank you so much for choosing me to be there to capture these memories. I am most honored!! And thank you to Tammy and my sweet husband for helping me out! You guys rock! And....I know this family is anxiously waiting to see the "big group" shot, but I am going to save those surprises for the full gallery. You won't be disappointed--you all did great!!!

This last one was not "the" intended shot, but it's the unintended shots that I am always hoping to get! LOVE how much LOVE is shown between these two! Lindsay is a very happy wife now that Anais is home from Afghanistan--only by 2 weeks!!! I felt so silly...I just kept stumbling over "Wow..thank you, thank you, thank you" during our little breakaway shoot. :) Another blessing I am so grateful I got to be there to see!

Life is Good {Dallas Child Photographer}

Life IS good when you're 7 months, huh? I absolutely love photographing babies at the 6-9 month stage. They are pretty much an ideal model for any photographer because they are just so happy at that age. They are loving their new view of the world sitting up and all the independence that brings, and they are at an especially cute age where their smiles can light up a room, bringing on all the attention they so deserve! They have not a care in the world except an occasional toothache or so, so no wonder life is good at 7 months! Brady is the perfect example of this. Super cute, super smiley, super happy! Just being around him made me happy so I am glad we got to spend a perfect morning together just before the break. We literally shot these that unusually warm day just before my Christmas break so these parents have been very patiently waiting on a peek. Another thing that made me happy this day...to witness how proud Amy and Justin are of this sweet little angel. It was precious to hear how much they are in love with their little boy! Hope these make you proud all over again!

This first one I kept coming back to again and again. Something about it is so GQ and simply adorable!

Wow...I really didn't know it had been that long since I blogged until I just signed on and my browser didn't automatically pick up on my blog address, and then I saw that my last post was in NOVEMBER!! To say I went on hiatus really doesn't suffice, which I did, but I also just got so overwhelmed with proofing, cards, holiday print orders, etc. that I just had to focus on what was most important and that was getting my clients their proofs and prints. So...that said, I am officially BACK!!! I hated not blogging some great family pictures that I was taking so I wanted to start off my blog again with a little recap of the end of 09. I have recently been looking at some other photographers blogs and in doing so, it has really made me still feel behind as I do not have any of my own Christmas pictures even uploaded, much less ready for my blog and I don't have any huge recap of my favorite pictures of 09, but what can I do? I am rejoicing that I made it through my first year in business and everyone got everything they ordered in time for Christmas! I also have done a lot of reflecting in these last 2 1/2 weeks of being off and I am overwhelmed with how much joy I feel looking back on all these families that trusted me with their portraits this year. So many memories, life--changing events, and milestones have been captured in a year and I am truly so humbled by your faith in me. I couldn't be more excited about 2010 and all the exciting things that are in store for Inspired By You and my wonderful clients this year! Here's a look at a few that you didn't see last year...

I only chose 2 from each session for the blog, but I am also in the process of updating my website and lots of these will make their grand debut on there so be sure to check it out in a couple of days!

And I had to post my funniest card of the season, and I know she won't mind because it's my best friend's card. I always get so nervous when photographing my good friends because I want to give them the very best. Well, Susan has Lyla...aka, my 2nd daughter. She is definitely at the hardest age to capture their sweet personalities, because they are just on the go sooo much at this stage. I also think it has to do with me being the photographer too because she knows me too well. She knows all my tricks and isn't falling for them! Thank goodness her parents had such awesome humor when it came to the 2009 Christmas card. :) Since we didn't have many traditional photos to include, it went a little something like this...

The Bucknam's {Southlake Family Photographer}

Awhile back I did a very unconventional IBY photo shoot-a school fundraiser where I was the photographer--the inside, under fluorescent lighting photographer. I was needless to say not perfect and definitely out of my element, but I had fun and the pictures turned out good--for party pics. Well, an up-side to the event was that I got to meet a lot of new families; including this next one. This session was just a bonus all around...well, almost. Getting to that in a sec~
A new fun family, a little bit older girls than my usual toddlers: older=a little more structure+listening+fun shots that may turn out fairly close to what I am envisioning in my head, and a new location that Dana found for me with next to perfect lighting! Natural light photographers are ever in search of the "perfect light". It doesn't happen in every session, and for me over this first year, it has taken a little time to learn how to see it/find it/capture it. Well, I found it this time. It just came with a price...MOSQUITOES! I'm talking tons of them. If you look hard enough I bet you can see them swarming around this family in their pictures! I am literally shocked that we have as many great images as we do based on the # of shots we didn't get because someone was getting eaten alive while I clicked the shutter! It was terrible-the mosquitoes that is. I don't know about them, but I had trouble sleeping that night just feeling like they were still all over me! Anyway, I'll use this spot again, but not without my insect repellent--and lots of it! Other than that, I had the best time with this family. Caroline and Molly were just delightful to hang out with. Caroline with her spunky personality, and Molly with her gorgeous smile just made my night. I hope I can get back to this post again with more pictures of the girls because I had the hardest time picking out which ones to post here. Enjoy your peek Bucknam family!

For the rest of the weekend I am going to be taking a break from blogging so that I can finish up all these proofs, but will resume again on Monday for another week of sessions! Maybe I'll have time to post a few of my favorites that didn't get blogged!

The Poole Family {Southlake Family Photographer}

I am sorry to make this short tonight, but I am on the way out to a much needed and deserved (for my husband) date night! My family time has severely taken a backseat to work during this busy time and so I am so excited to spend one night away from the computer and just with my sweet hubs! But first, here's a little bit about this sweet family. Heather is a friend of mine who I met through my Mom's League and I have already photographed Reese earlier this year for his 3 year pictures, but now it was time for some family Christmas pictures and some a photo shoot for Aubrey since the removal of her braces. Aubrey and I had so much fun starting off in the coolest room ever! Another fellow Mom's Leaguer painted the wall behind Aubrey, which was just amazing! We literally just spent some time with just the two of us listening to music and taking some casual, but super fun pictures. Even though the braces saga continues for Aubrey, she looks stunning to me. If you think about typical teenagers, especially girls...she is NOT that. She is the most respectful, cool, and amazing girls I have been around and I had so much fun getting to know her better!
After that, we headed out for some family pictures and then the field. Ahhhh, the field...it was greatness! Sunset, great lighting, perfect background and subjects=happy photographer. I love how they turned out! Hope you love them too Poole Family!

This blogging every night is getting to seem like a game to me. I sat here thinking tonight that there are so many people waiting on proofs for Christmas that if you are checking the blog at all this week, you are probably like "is it going to be MY turn tonight?!" Well, there is a light at the end of this tunnel, and we're headed towards it! I know you are getting anxious about Christmas cards and gifts and I want you to know that I am working day and night in front of this computer to get them all to you on time. I will be all done with everything by the end of next week and then the turn around time is practically nothing. So don't worry! We'll get there! Thanks again for being so patient.

Okay, so not to take too much away from this wonderful, Spirit-filled family! I gathered that Holly was a very positive, glass half-full type of girl just over emails before our session and she totally is that, and more. She was so sweet, energetic, a fabulous and nurturing mother, and was just such a breath of fresh air to be around for our short morning together. John and Holly are another amazingly in-love couple and even though I saw their love and respect for each other during our photo shoot, it was realized again after I got home and Holly added me on Facebook. I hope you don't mind Holly, but I looked through your wall and was almost brought to tears by the anniversary note that John wrote you. I mean, is that not the best anniversary present in itself or what?

McKenna and Noah started out wanting to be no closer than an arms length of each other, but our little "games" pulled them in! McKenna was an easy one to get in front of the camera. She actually wanted to be in front of the camera showing me all her "motions" as she put it. Too cute...brings a smile to my face just thinking of her doing all her posing! Watch out Holly and John! Noah needed a little bit more convincing, but showing him how handsome he was on my camera really helped out.

All I want for Christmas...{Rockwall Maternity Photographer}

All this growing family wants is a precious, healthy baby girl to be named Presley-due 2 days before Christmas! What more could you ask for? I can't even wait to meet her. We are already scheduled to do her newborn photos and I just got a peek tonight of her nursery--SO cute!

So back to her Momma's maternity photos...again, be prepared for a super giddy photographer to show up when you choose an urban location. It's my favorite..I just love finding new spots that are out-of-the-ordinary, love the colors you can find, love the uniqueness you end up with, love that it just veers off the track a little bit! This session was no exception. In fact, it surpassed all my expectations leading up to it. Awesome location, Awesome parents, Awesome clothing choices...AGAIN, and just so fun to shoot. I knew I would love Ashlie when I first got her email requesting a session just by the way her name is spelled. Don't you have to be a cool girl when your name is spelled just a little bit funky? So then she says "urban could be cool"...4 words I love to hear. Then they both show up ready to have fun-no beatdown for this couple...this was really fun! Soon to be Dad is also very cool. He's a graphic designer for video games~REALLY? Is there a cooler job? Yes, mine!!
So even though I thought they were amazing just from our short day together, I then find out that we all went to college together and Brandon is one of a friend/frat brother of the husband in the post below (my bf's), AND Ashlie and I were sorority sisters--at the same time (well, for 1 semester). Judging by the lack of wrinkles on her face, she had to be younger than me! :) So anyway, we were destined to connect in someway and I'm so glad we did. I am so looking forward to meeting your little girl in a few weeks! Thank you so much for choosing me to document this special time in your lives!

Girlie Girl alert!!! This sweet thing at only 5 days old has more bows, clothes, and all things girlie than my 2 1/2 year old! I knew this going in...from the day my friend Katie found out she was having a girl so I have been sooo excited for her and to see it all in use on this precious baby girl. One more wonderful family who has patiently been waiting for much anticipated family pictures. Hope these don't disappoint! I loved hanging out, make that-running around with these 2 boys. We ran from place to place I just ran right along with them, shooting the whole way! These two were so much fun and even at the very beginning of our session, I had made 2 new friends. I love it when that happens! This family shot is a photographer's dream...it is literally the third frame in the session. Now that's a great start to a great shoot!

I FINALLY did it! Thanks to my bff for being so YOU, funky, fun, colorful, spunky, and well...YOU! I loved getting to shoot at this location that I have been dying to get a family into, but more than that, I loved getting to finally do Sarah's whole family session. Sarah has graciously donated her daughter tons of times for my practice shoots, and then we got some better than practice pictures with the summer mini-sessions, and now we have done it. The mother of all sessions with the whole fam at the McKinney Cotton Mill. Urban, contemporary, fun, and so Collier-ish! Love the pictures, love the family, love it all! Hope you love them too Sarah! Enjoy!

So I am on a mission to get caught up. I am blogging at least one family/session per day until I am so look out! Next up, I got to spend a wonderful afternoon with Miss Fiorella to get some classic pictures in her Christening dress + some other fun outfits! We chose the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens to for it's traditional and timeless backgrounds and had some very special props that we used too! I brought along a true classic rocking chair-one I had as a kid, and I think even my mom had?! And the 2nd was my fave...Mom brought a vintage chair from home and completely surprised me with it. I about fell over. I love using furniture in pictures and have actually been on the lookout for some pieces of my own to cart around, and this was perfect! Love it, love this precious angel, and just had a great time with this session! The family shot was from a different day...an add-on if you will, with Mom and Dad!

Thank you for so much Melissa-for letting me hang out with this precious girl, for trusting me with so many once in a lifetime photos this year, for coming over to do Lo's newborn portraits last minute-aren't you so glad we did? I surely am! And for gracing my blog/website with all of your beautiful faces! I love this family!

Normally I will always tell families that newborn portraits should be done within the first 10 days to 2 weeks, but the stars were aligned for this session. Never would we have gotten an open eyes shot like this in the first 2 weeks, and as you can see from above, we still got the most fabulous newborn shots too! Talk about the best of both worlds!
